Animals Around the World: Part 2
(Approx. 30 min)

Learn about your chosen animal. Look at pictures and listen to text to learn about an animal. We will be inviting students to share some of this learning during future Google Meets.
  • Access National Geographic Kids to find an interesting fact about your animal and its habitat.

Success Criteria:
  • I can research information by listening and looking at pictures
  • With help I can write a fact about my animal and my animal’s habitat

Assessment: Submit a photo of your interesting fact and habitat sentences in Google Classroom.
Shake and Spill
Game
(10 minutes per day)

Each day pick a number and place that many items in a cup. Then, draw a large circle to act as a target. This could be on a piece of paper, or you may choose to do this with chalk outside.

Shake the cup and spill it onto the piece of paper with the target. Count how many items land in the target, and how many items land outside.

Practice writing the numbers and saying the number sentence. For example, if 3 land in the target and 7 land outside, you would say:

  • 3 and 7 make 10.

Please pick numbers that will best challenge your child.

Assessment: Submit two photos with number sentences in Google Classroom.

Google MeetBring 2 Items that Rhyme
(Approx. 30 min)

Select rhyming words to share with the class. They could be words that rhyme with the ‘at’ or ‘ug' word families. You could also choose any other rhyming word families. The options are endless!

Remember to keep your items hidden until it is your turn to share.
You could:
  • Draw pictures of your rhyming words
  • Choose photofrom a book
  • Bring the items
  • Or a combination of the above

For example:
A bat and hat rhyme.

Acrostic Name Game
(Approx. 30 mins)

Write your name vertically using sticky notes or a piece of paper.

Search your home to find an item for each letter of your name and place it beside the corresponding letter.

To extend this activity, you may decide to try to write the name of each item using kid printing.

Here is an example for the name “Parker”

Number lineOne More
(Approx. 30 mins)

Make a number line from 0 to 10. Roll a die to find your starting point then jump one more to the next number. This game can also be played by jumping backward.

For example:
  • If you roll number 6 you would place a token/block/small item on number 6
  • Then you would jump/move the token to number 7
  • If you were jumping backward you would jump to 5

It’s Not a Box Creations
(Approx. 30 mins)

Listen to the story Not a Box Story | Click Here by Antoinette Portis.

Find an empty box of any shape or size.

What can you turn your box into? Can you use your own body as part of your creation?

The ug Family
(Approx. 30 minutes)

Rhyming helps us learn how to read and write words. Listen to the Jack Hartmann Video | Click Here to learn about words in the “ug” family

Use different letters of the alphabet to create ug rhyming words. Create a list of real words and a list of silly words. What is the silliest word you made?

Example:
Real Words
Silly Words
hug
dug
bug
aug
cug
stug

Playing with rhyming allows students the opportunity to experiment with different language patterns, building their understanding of how words work.
Measure a Stuffy
(Approx. 30 min)

In this activity you are going to measure the height of a stuffy or toy.
  • Select the stuffy or toy that you will measure the height of.
  • Select something that you will be measuring the stuffy or toy with. Whatever you select, must be uniform in size. (ie: blocks, crayons, LEGO pieces).
  • Using whatever you have chosen to be your unit of measure, determine how tall your stuffy or toy is (ie: My bear is 9 LEGO blocks tall or My dinosaur is 6 crayons tall)

Have fun measuring other toys in your home!
