This Past Week

In mathematics this week we continued to work on establishing a pattern for the design of our very own necklace. Inspired by the picture book Grandma's Necklaces, by Catherine Twomey Fosnot, students applied what they have learned about patterns to design the blueprint for a necklace that they will soon have the opportunity to create. 

Students were provided with criteria for their necklace designs to meet:

        1. Their pattern had to repeat at least 3 times

        2. Their pattern had to have an identified core (ie: AAB, AABB...etc.)

                                               

Students worked hard at incorporating the identified criteria into their necklace designs. They also used the criteria to give their teacher feedback that is kind, specific and helpful, so that she could improve her work. Finally, students worked with their classmates to provide feedback for their peers, so that everyone could improve their work and ensure the accuracy of their final pattern.  

We are so excited to start making the beads for our necklaces next week!
