This Past Week:

This past week some of our classes continued to explore what makes each family unique. Students looked closely at their family photos in order to build each member of their family. Students added special details for each family member to show what makes them special. We learned that by using our imagination, we can use loose parts to bring the story of our families.

Wow! This past week started off with a lot of snow! With the changing of the seasons comes a changing of the outdoor attire. Students are learning about the order to successfully put on their outdoor gear. Please talk to your child about how to dress for winter: first snowpants, then boots, coat, hat, backpack and finally, mittens.

Independence with dressing is an essential life skill. Getting dressed independently helps build a child's confidence and while also working those important fine and gross motor abilities. Please have your child practice getting ready on their own, so they can transfer this skill to the school setting.

Learning through play continues to be an essential part of our day. When child visit different exploration centres, they are able to practice the skills taught in lessons, learn to interact positively with others and explore the world around them.

"We made an alphabet mountain!"

"Painting on rocks: practicing letter formation and fine motor skills"

As part of our focus on mindfulness, students have been discussing the importance of breathing as a strategy to calm our minds and regulate our emotions. By reading and examining the images in the picture book My Magic Breath, students have been exploring how different emotions can be conveyed through line and colour. We are practicing depicting what our "breath" might look like.

Students worked so well together to build beautiful masterpieces representing their magic breath! After painting together, students shared how they felt:

"I was so happy!"
"It was magic to paint together"
"I felt calm"
"My magic breath makes me feel peace"

Students have continued to work as scientists by making observations and gathering evidence of the fall. Using the evidence gathered, students were able to make observations. In order to look closely at the details and shape of a leaf, students did leaf rubbings and were amazed with what they saw!

"Wooooahhh!!!!

Students continue to engage in exploration centres. During centre time, students have the opportunity to explore concepts learned in lessons in multiple contexts.
